Chapter 21

The Principals Office

It took most of the day to find a time where the principal wasn't around so we could sneak into his office. Kate was feeling a little scared about it. The principal's office was like a throne. The school was his castle.

When the chance came, Gina snuck in while Kate kept watch. Kate peered around the corner, praying that they would not get caught. Visions of detention and phone calls to their parents flooded her mind. So, she shut her eyes, only to open them because, after all, she was keeping watch.

It was only a few minutes, although Kate thought it seemed longer, when she heard Gina's voice. "It's here! Hooray!" Gina tried to keep her words down to a whisper but, Kate could still hear the excitement in them.

"Then, let's get out of here," said Kate, her heart pounding as they hurried down the hallway.

When they were safely out of the room, Gina handed the painting back to Kate. She hugged it to her, as if it were a treasure.

"Want to cut it now?" asked Gina.

Kate replied, "No, we can't. We have to find Will."

"He's not in school today," Gina said.

"How are your parents handling having the Scream at your house?" Kate asked.

"Well, I let him sleep in my tree house, so they didn't exactly know. And Will, he convinced his family that they agreed to a foreign exchange student," said Gina, with a laugh.

Kate was glad that her family was also very nice to her new friend. But, Kate knew that eventually they would wonder why Lisa was staying so long at their house.

Maybe the painting would hold the answer, she thought to herself, gripping it more tightly.
